When you can't let go

One of my fave tank tops. I think I bought it over 10 years ago at Forever 21, probably for $5 or something, which, back then was a lot for a poor college freshman.
As I wore it the other day, I noticed a bit of discoloration, and a small hole that was growing and would look to silly to fix it. But it's one of my faves! And the rest of it is still in good shape. So... what do I do? I cut it up.

Now, it's better than it was before. Better, stronger, stripier:

  3. It was easier than I thought it was going to be.
I arranged it as in the 2nd picture, lined up the arm holes which would turn into the straps. Trimmed off the corners (you can kinda see my pin marks where I was about to cut) and sewed up the raw edges. Trimmed off the bottom to the desired length and closed it up. I also put in a lining with muslin to help it keep its form, since the tank was made of stretchy fabric. And voila!
