I'm the Oogie Boogie Man

For Halloween this year, I've given each room in my apartment a theme. The living room is pumpkins, dining room is spiders, etc. Our office - Tim Burton. Since I'm cheap, I decided to make the decorations. I've already made Zero from "A Nightmare Before Christmas." I'm in the process of making Frankenweenie* and the Headless Horseman from a pattern for baby toys. But I've been really looking forward to making Oogie Boogie. Problem was - I couldn't find any patterns online - not in crochet, fabrics, nuttin.
So I took it upon myself to make my own. Fingers crossed, I started drawing my pattern. The pattern looked good, so I started sewing. And here's what I came up with:



He stands about 14 inches tall, made of burlap and felt. Although I used a machine to put him together, I hand-stitched around his body and his face. The die is made of felt, with colored plastic studs/rhinestones.

If you'd like to make your own, here's the pattern I used (on 11"x17" paper).

1. Cut two out of burlap. With right sides together, sew with a 1/4" seam along all sides, leaving an opening at the bottom.
2. Clip points and curves. Turn. Stuff with batting. I also threw in some doll beads to make him bottom-heavy.
3. Using black embroidery thread, hand sew stitching along seams, and close up bottom opening.
4. Cut eyes and mouth out of black felt. Hand sew onto doll.
5. To make die, cut 6- 1" squares from felt and sew together to form a cube. Glue on dots from whatever material you choose.

*Frankenweenie has not come out as well as I had hoped. It's hard to find a pattern of a bull terrier, especially a two-toned one. And the pattern was much smaller than I thought it was. I'll keep working on it though. The horse is from the same pattern, which I'll make all black so it'll be easier. Still will be smaller than I'd like though.
