Cleaning up

This weekend was the annual Coastal Cleanup Day. Midday results came in at over 53,000 volunteers and 614,000lbs of trash collected. That's amazing! Joe and I helped out at Venice Beach - didn't find anything too crazy this year. Just lots of tiny pieces of plastic and styrofoam that had washed up on the shore that marine life is likely to eat up when washed back out, and a ton of cigarette butts.

For a warm Saturday, the beach was surprisingly quiet - not many sunbathers and surfers that morning. I guess we were the only ones who wanted to spend the last official weekend of summer by the ocean!

Meanwhile, I've been cleaning up my stash at home. Of yarn that is. From yarn from old projects, plus some yarn people at work gave me, I've been working on scarves and kids' hats for donation to Handmade Especially For You, a nonprofit that donates those items to womens' shelters. And for fun, I came up with a new mug cozy - a kitty!
